I realized today that there was already a hair balls blog out there and, in fact, it is something I read from time to time as it is a local thing and a friend writes for it from time to time. That being the case, I am open to suggestions for a title for my adventures in link-blogging. I was tempted to try and make a Sean Avery/sloppy seconds joke with the title but only one or two readers would get it and while I like the joke that only a few people get, I want to be a bit less obscure with the titles. Send me your suggestions, people! Now, on to the latest entry in the Linkblog With No Name!

First up we have this memo from David Mamet to the writing staff of The Unit, a criminally under-appreciated show which aired for four seasons on CBS, in which he details his formula for writing good television.  If you have any interest in writing then you should take a look at the letter.

Being geeks we all love TED Talks (and if you do not know what a TED Talk is, you definitely need to check out the main site here).  This particular TED Talk is about the things we learn while playing games like World of Warcraft and how to harness this learning to make a better world.  And here my mom thought all those nights playing Dungeons & Dragons were a complete waste!

If you follow me on Facebook or Twitter you should be well acquainted with my infoporn fetish.  I like information.  Information makes me smarter than the average bear.  The problem is there is SOOOOO much information out there these days that a man could go crazy just trying to find a useless piece of information for use later.  Fortunately for me there are people out there who specialize in taking information, wedding it with pretty, pretty colors, and putting it out there in the wild for me to find and ogle. This particular piece of infoporn is a color visualization of a year in Boston and it is wicked awesome.  On a related note if you do not read Barry Ritholtz’s blog, The Big Picture, then you are missing out on some of the best commentary on Wall Street, economics, and other random stuff out there.  Go and check it out.  You will be glad you did.

Canadian screenwriter Alex Epstine pointed me in the direction of this thread on MetaFilter regarding replacements for the word “retard” when using it as an insult.  As this is one of my few character flaws, and I happen to love word play, this thread was pretty much written for me.  Of course it is the internet so brace yourself.

Do you ever feel the lack of kaiju in your life? I know I do.  In order to fix this problem I found this clip (right-click and select save as to have it for your very own) somewhere online and subsequently uploaded it to my phone so now when certain peeps call me, the terrible cry of Godzilla can warm the cockles of my heart.

And finally, I know I can be difficult to shop for.  Buy me this wrecking ball lamp and I will love you forever and ever.

And that’s it for tonight, kids.  As always, today’s picture was brought to us by IHeartChaos.com who always makes me ask, “Where do they get those wonderful toys?”  Ciao!
